It’s no secret that Kevin and I love going out for Sunday brunch. When The Dawson opened last year it was quickly added to our list of places to try.
As are most emerging restaurants in Chicago, The Dawson was opened by people with an already known presence in the city. The Lawless Family who are behind Michigan Avenue favorites, Henri and The Gage, partnered with another restauranteur to open The Dawson in 2013.
The Dawson has one of the best outdoor patios in the city which is one of the reasons we were attracted to the place.
On our visit a few weeks ago, we went for brunch but the restaurant offers a full dinner menu as well. Per usual, Kevin started with a Bloody Mary and I got an iced coffee. They serve La Colombe coffee which is one of my favorites!
I’m always torn between sweet and savory options for brunch, but this particular day I was craving sweet so I went with the French Toast Terrine. The dish turned out to be a combination of both as the french toast was actually stuffed with sausage and pistachios which I loved! I’m pretty sure they forgot the maple syrup on my plate, but I was fine with it as the ricotta and figs added enough sweetness to the dish.
French Toast + Breakfast Sausage + Fig + Pistachio + Bitter Green Salad + Whipped Ricotta + Maple Syrup
Kevin opted for the Honey Ham Steak option. Last week I talked about the best brunch dish ever and sadly this version of ham steak just didn’t measure up.
House Made Smoked Honey Ham + Honey Glaze + Sunny-Side Up Egg + Crispy Smashed Kennebec Potatoes
Overall I loved the atmosphere of The Dawson and their patio is a great spot to dine in the summer! It wasn’t the best brunch either of us have ever had, but I would still like to go back and try some of their dinner options.
The Dawson is located at 730 W Grand Ave in Chicago’s Fulton River District
Gosh I’m jealous! I so miss doing brunch…we don’t really anymore. 🙁 That place looks awesome and trendy and the food looks delicious!
Brunch has definitely become one our favorite weekly dates!
