Good morning! Sorry this post is coming to you a little later than usual. I had the best weekend with my mom and sister and can’t wait to recap it for you!
FRIDAY | I had the day off work on Friday and I didn’t really do much except for clean our condo, grocery shop, and watch a couple of Christmas movies while drinking some Trader Joe’s Candy Cane Green Tea (the best)! It was pretty wonderful!
Later that evening Kevin and I went to dinner at Axcan, our new favorite Mexican restaurant. I had a major craving for guacamole and this totally satisfied my craving!
SATURDAY | My mom and sister arrived late morning for the start of our fun girls weekend! First, we headed downtown for Holiday Tea at The Drake Hotel.
Hilary and I did this last year for the first time and had so much fun we decided to make it a tradition! It was so fun to have our mom join us this year too! We each got to choose our own flavor of tea and were served an assortment of finger sandwiches, scones, and pastries. Everything was delicious but we all agreed the mini turkey cranberry sandwiches were the best!
There was a harpist who played music during the tea and a group of carolers who went from table to table singing Christmas songs! They even let us request a song so we chose Joy to the World!
The Drake Hotel is a beautiful hotel and was decorated so festive for Christmas! We had so much fun at our afternoon tea and are already looking forward to next year!
After tea we walked all of Michigan Avenue admiring the beautiful lights while doing a little Christmas shopping.
We headed over to Macy’s to see the great tree in The Walnut Room,
and to look at their festive windows!
We walked over to the Christkindlmarket next.
It was almost 50 degrees out this weekend and everyone must have wanted to be outside because it was a mad house!! We pushed our way through crowds for about 15 minutes and got no where so snapped a quick picture with the tree and got out of there!
We were getting pretty hungry so Kevin met us downtown and we drove over to Little Goat Diner for dinner. Everything we ate was delicious especially the nachos my mom ordered! Sadly, I didn’t snap a pic of those.
After dinner we headed back home, got in our pajamas, and chilled out for the rest of the night.
SUNDAY | We all went to church together and heard a great message on Isaiah 9 and the four names it says Jesus will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace. I ran into several friends at the service that morning who I hadn’t seen in a while so it was already a great start to the morning! After church we went to Farmhouse for brunch and enjoyed lots of yummy food!
We decided to go back over to the Christkindlmarket thinking it would be less crowded during the day. It was still pretty packed, but we did manage to actually get the mugs we wanted and Hilary picked up a couple of ornaments.
We did a little bit more shopping and then headed back home. Once we got home it was sadly time for my mom and Hilary to leave. I am so glad they got to come and even though the visit was short, I had so much fun with them here!
After they left, I watched my favorite Christmas movie: Miracle on 34th Street! Kevin and I ended the night with some taco soup and Home Alone.
