Unless you’ve walked down Clark Street in Lakeview, you may not be familiar with a newer restaurant on the scene – Hutch. I first heard about Hutch after reading about Erica‘s brunch experience and I knew I had to go check it out for myself. Hutch was created based on two ideas: to be a place where people can be comfortable and to have food people crave. After having Sunday brunch here a few weeks ago, I can say that it is definitely both of those things.
We started our meal off with drinks: coffee for me (they serve Sparrow which is one of my favorites) and their signature Bloody Mary known as “Starsky” for Kevin. Their version is made with Smoked Jalapeno + Garlic Infused Vodka, House-Made BBQ Bitters, and has a Bacon Sea Salt rim. The jalapeno vodka added a nice spice without overpowering the drink and the bacon sea salt rim was an added bonus!
For my meal I ordered the Chilaquiles which were topped with a red sauce that definitely had some heat, but wasn’t too spicy where I couldn’t enjoy the dish. I chose to order my eggs scrambled, but you can have them cooked to your preference.
Kevin ordered the Steak Chimichurri which was served with two eggs and breakfast potatoes on the side. Steak Chimichurri is one of his favorite dishes and this one did not disappoint. His steak was cooked perfectly medium rare and the chimichurri sauce had great flavor.
Even though we are both eating gluten free, we were not limited on items to choose from their menu. That being said, if I was not eating gluten free I would love to try their Fried Chicken + Corn Waffle and Monkey Bread! Also, I will be ordering the Totchos (tater tots with truffled cheese fondue) next time.
Hutch is a great place for a casual Sunday brunch with friends. It is not fancy or pretentious and you could definitely come in your comfy clothes.
Hutch is located at 3301 N. Clark St. in Chicago’s Lakeview neighborhood
