Rockit Bar & Grill has been a restaurant staple in Chicago for many years. In fact, I even had my Bachelorette party dinner there five years ago. Since the opening of Rockit, restaurateur Billy Dec has expanded his resume and opened other popular venues like Sunda and Bottlefork. In keeping up with some of his newer restaurants, Dec recently decided to revamp Rockit and give it a complete makeover. From interior design to menu, this River North hot spot has a whole new look and feel.
A few weeks ago Kevin and I decided to check out the new and improved Rockit. Upon entering we both loved the sleek new look. For food we were drawn to several different things on the menu but eventually settled on a salad and sandwich. I ordered the Mediterranean Salad with Summer Squash, Sun-dried Tomatoes, Peppers, Feta, Falafel Croutons, and Tzatziki Vinaigrette. I loved everything about this salad. All of the vegetables made it light and fresh and paired perfectly with the salty feta. I also loved the uniqueness of the falafel croutons!
Kevin opted for the Fried Chicken Sandwich made of Buttermilk-Herb Fried Chicken, Vinegar Cucumber Salad, and Hot Sauce Mayo on a Toasted Tuscan Roll. He really enjoyed his sandwich and ate every bite. The cucumber salad added a nice fresh bite to the heaviness of the fried chicken which balanced the sandwich nicely.
The menu also had several different kinds of fries that caught our eye including the Buffalo Fries with Blue Cheese Fondue but we opted for a slightly lighter option and went with the Sweet Potato Fries with Brown Sugar Salt and Chipotle Mayonnaise. Sweet Potato Fries + Chipotle Mayo = a perfect match!
Overall we were really impressed with the things we tried from Rockit’s new menu. We would love to go back and try some of their snacks and shared plates like the Grilled Short Rib Jerky. Rockit is also known for their burgers which we have had before and love. One of my favorites is the Turkey Burger on a Pretzel Bun with Chipotle Mayo.
Rockit Bar & Grill is located at 22 W. Hubbard in Chicago’s River North neighborhood
