Happy October!! The temperatures finally dropped this week after the Indian Summer we’ve been having and I think it’s safe to say that fall weather is officially here to stay. I wore my boots for the first time this week and the cooler temps inspired me to start thinking fall clothing. Today I am rounding up my list of Fall Fashion Essentials.
Plaid Shirts: In my opinion you can never have too many of these. These can be dressed down with a vest and jeans or dressed up paired with a skirt and statement necklace. This is such a versatile piece to have in your closet. Some of favorites are: J.Crew Gingham Button-Down, J.Crew Classic Flannel Button-Down, and Old Navy Tunic Pullover.
Vests: Another thing that I don’t think you can ever have too many of are vests. I personally own several colors and wear every single one. A vest thrown over a plaid shirt is pretty much my fall uniform. Here are some of my favorites: Old Navy Quilted Vest, J.Crew Quilted Puffer Vest, J.Crew Printed Quilted Puffer Vest, and Gap Faux Fur-Trim Puffer Vest.
Blanket Scarf: Oh the infamous blanket scarf! I bought my first one last year from Zara and it definitely took me a couple of wears to get the hang of it. They are extremely cozy though. Here are a few I am eyeing this season: Zara Checked and Striped Scarf, ASOS Oversized Square Scarf, and ASOS Oversized Scarf with Tassels.
Chambray Shirts: These are another fall wardrobe staple for me. Like plaid shirts these can easily be dressed up or down. Here are a few options to chose from: J.Crew Two-Pocket Shirt, LOFT Tunic Softened Shirt, and LOFT Collarless Softened Shirt.
Oversized Sweaters: Dressing for cooler temps means cozy and my definition of cozy is a soft, oversized sweater. Paired with jeans or leggings and boots, oversized sweaters are a must. Some of my favorites include: Old Navy Drop Shoulder Sweater, LOFT Poncho Sweater, LOFT Sheerstitch Tunic, and H&M Oversized Sweater.
Dark Denim: In my opinion dark denim looks good with everything! The darker the jeans the better. I’m still riding the skinny jean train, but I hear flares are back in style this fall. Here are a few pairs of jeans I’m loving: Gap Slim Straight Jeans, Gap Real Straight Jeans, J.Crew Toothpick Jeans, and LOFT Modern Skinny Jeans.
Booties: I have to admit I just got my first pair of booties last Christmas. I have the TOMS Wedges and I love them! They are super comfortable and look great with dark skinny jeans and a plaid shirt. Here are a few other pairs I love: TOMS Suede Desert Wedges, LOFT Short Ankle Boots, and Dolce Vita Wedge Bootie.
Riding Boots: Skirts with leggings/tights and riding boots are pretty much my fall work wardrobe and I happily started that season this week. If money were no object, I would love to buy a new brown and black pair every year, but leather boots are so dang expensive! Luckily if you invest in a good pair they should last you several years. Here are some boots I’m loving: Tory Burch ‘Derby’ Riding Boot, Corso Como ‘Geneva’ Tall Boot, and Sam Edelman ‘Ryan’ Riding Boot.
Ballet Flats: I’ve never been a heel girl, I’ve always loved my flats. When your not wearing boots, a cute pair of flats are the perfect shoe for your skinny jeans. I have a leopard pair and nude pair that I wear on rotation. I almost always buy mine from Target. Here are some flats that I love: Sam Edelman ‘Noah’ Flat, Sam Edelman ‘Felicia’ Flat, Merona Drew Ballet Flats, and Sam & Libby Chelsea Bow Flats.
Nail Polish: To finish off every good outfit you need the right nail polish. Fall is the perfect time to wear your grays, browns, purples, and darker shades of blue. Here are some of my go to nail polish colors for fall: Essie ‘Merino Cool’, Essie ‘Smokin Hot’, Essie ‘Chinchilly’, Essie ‘After School Boy Blazer’, OPI ‘You Don’t Know Jacques’, OPI ‘Miami Beet’, and OPI ‘Lincoln Park After Dark’.
And just because I have to share this awesome deal with you – the BEST EVER leggings are currently 25% off at Nordstrom. The Hue ‘Ultra’ Wide Waistband Leggings are the only leggings I will wear since discovering them last year. They are completely opaque and even after several washes the color does not fade. The wide waistband sucks in your stomach and doesn’t leave you with a muffin top. The also never sag. Seriously the BEST leggings! I have them in black and just ordered a pair in gray as well as “back up” pair in black.
