The Kinderhook Tap is your small neighborhood bar and grill where you walk in and feel like everyone knows your name. Located on the corner of Oak Park and Van Buren Avenues, the name comes from President Van Buren’s nickname “Old Kinderhook”.
After living in Oak Park for five years, Kevin and I just recently discovered this local gem over the summer. Their bar menu features craft beers, spirits, and small batch wines. They usually only a few beers on tap which are constantly rotating based on the season.
The food menu also changes slightly with the seasons but a lot of the main offerings remain the same. Some of the menu fits with their English pub vibe like the Scotch Egg and Fish & Chips. One of their more popular items which happens to be our favorite is the Kinderhook Burger. This burger is made from Grass-Fed Beef and topped with Raw Onion, Tomato Jam, Cheddar Cheese, Pickle, and Secret Sauce all served on a Pretzel Bun. The burger itself is super juicy and flavorful and the sweetness from the tomato jam just puts it over the top!
They also have gluten free bread available on request which Kevin has had and enjoyed just as much.
Another delicious sandwich that I love is their Warm Burrata Muffuletta. This is a vegetarian take on the traditional Italian deli meat sandwich. Fresh Burrata Mozzarella, Olive Salad, Roasted Peppers, Arugula, and Artichoke inside a Whole Wheat Ciabatta bun is the perfect summer sandwich. The warm burrata is creamy and pairs nicely with the briny olive salad.
With any of their sandwiches you get your choice of side which includes Hand Cut Fries, Onion Rings, Tater Tots, Mac n’ Cheese, and Curried Cauliflower. Our favorites are their fries and the herb and Parmesan cheese tots.
The Kinderhook Tap is the perfect neighborhood spot to meet your friends for drinks and dinner after work. Located steps away from the Oak Park blue line, this location is both convenient and delicious!
