Like a lot of people I typically will make New Year’s resolutions and quickly forget about them after a couple of months. This year I decided to set goals for myself that were easily attainable so I don’t give up on them. I wanted to write them here so that I could look back at the end of the year to see how I did, but also so you as my readers can help hold me accountable. Here are my goals for 2016.
Health/Fitness
Be more active. For me this will include remembering to wear my Fitbit every day with a target goal of 10,000 steps per day. (If you have a Fitbit and want to be friends, my email is paige.viollt@gmail.com). Kevin and I also rejoined a gym. We used to be members at the YMCA but stopped going so we made it a goal to get back at it this year (yes we are those people who got a gym membership on January 1st). Our goal is to go five days per week and so far we have been every day this year.
Use my standing desk more. When I first got my standing desk at work last year I was using it regularly, but then I got out of the habit. My goal is to stand at least two hours per day while working.
Eat clean/whole foods. I haven’t really mentioned it on here, but I’ve been following a mostly Paleo diet since November and I want to continue eating this way. I felt great when I did a Whole 30 last year and have learned that dairy and grains make my gut feel bloated. I’ve found eating Paleo to be a great lifestyle change for me. I plan on doing a post soon about what the Paleo lifestyle entails. I also plan on doing “Meatless Mondays” which surprisingly Kevin was on board with too.
Spiritual
Read the Bible every day. I hate to admit that making time for God every day has not been a priority for me lately. I know reading the Bible and spending time with Jesus is so important and I want to be doing this daily. I plan on following the She Reads Truth studies as well as whatever we doing with my small group at church.
Start a prayer calendar/journal. This year I really want to be better about praying for others. I plan on creating a calendar where I pray for specific people (family, friends, church leaders, local/world leaders, etc.) on certain days. I also want to start journaling my prayers so I can look back and see how God has been working.
Personal/Lifestyle
Read a book each month. I go in waves with my love for reading. This year I want to make a point to read a new book each month. My sister got me “For the Love” by Jen Hatmaker for Christmas so I plan on starting with that book first for January.
Be more intentional with relationships. This one. I say it every year, but I truly do desire to be a better wife, sister, daughter, and friend. I really want to invest in other people’s lives and be very intentional about pouring into those I love. I want to do a better job of reaching out to and loving others well.
Say yes and be more giving of my time. I’ll be the first to admit I can be very selfish with my time. This year I want to be better about saying yes and giving my time to help out others even if it means giving up my one free night that week.
I think all of these goals are easily attainable yet ones I will still have to work towards. This year I want to better myself in all areas and I think I can do so by achieving these goals.
Do you set goals? What are some of your goals for 2016?
