This weekend was the first weekend in as long as I can remember where we literally had nothing on our agenda.
Friday – Kevin and I had a date night. We checked out Rockit Ranch Production‘s newest hot spot for dinner – Bottlefork. Located in the River North neighborhood of Chicago, this restaurant is a definite must try! We loved everything we ate including an interesting appetizer the menu calls “Bag” of Crisps + Egg. Full restaurant review coming tomorrow.
After dinner we headed over to the movie theatre and saw Divergent. I absolutely LOVED it! I haven’t read any of the books, but I thought the movie was awesome! And Theo James? Enough said.
Saturday – Even though it was only 30 degrees outside, we decided to head out on an impromptu day date. One of our favorite things to do is explore different neighborhoods in Chicago. We went to Lincoln Park so we could try out a new lunch spot I’ve been eyeing. Even though we’ve been to Lincoln Park many times, it was still fun to walk around and “explore”. We started off by walking though Oz Park – a cute park that has statues of all of the Wizard of Oz characters. Did you know the novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz was originally published in Chicago?
There happened to be several movie trailers surrounding the park and after a little bit of internet stalking, we figured out they were filming for the pilot of a new TV series called Empire.
After walking through the park, we stopped for lunch at Blue Door Farm Stand on Armitage. This new cafe is an adorable addition to all of the new LP restaurants that have popped up recently. They get all of their products from local farms in surrounding states.
I had a delicious Brussels & Kale Salad that was lightly dressed in a maple tahini dressing – simply perfection!
Full restaurant review coming soon!
After lunch, we continued our stroll down Armitage Ave. popping in and out of different boutiques/shops. We stopped by David’s Tea to get something hot to sip on while we walked around. For those tea lovers out there – David’s is a must! I had their signature flavor, Forever Nuts, which smells and tastes just like the roasted nuts you find in the mall. So good!
Since we were near by, we decided to attend our church‘s Saturday night service. We usually go on Sunday morning, but decided to give Saturday night a try. The Saturday night crowd actually meets in the church’s cafe and has much a smaller, more intimate feel. It was a nice change of pace. Our pastor, Jackson, spoke on Matthew 5:33-37. Basically being a person of your word and living a life of integrity – an important message and sometimes not as easy as it should be.
Saturday night we stayed in and watched Hunger Games Catching Fire on Netflix. While watching the movie, we enjoyed popcorn we picked up earlier that day from Berco’s. Having visited before, Berco’s has quickly become our favorite popcorn in the city. Garrett’s Popcorn is probably what Chicago is most known for, but locals must go to Lincoln Park and try Berco’s! We had the World Famous Best Ever Mix which is white cheddar and caramel corn mix.
Sunday – It was 50 degrees today! It finally felt like spring outside! Today was spent running errands (and driving with the windows down!), spring cleaning around the house, catching up on the DVR, and blogging. A nice low key day to lead into the work week.
What did you do this weekend?
xoxo – Paige
I love impromptu day dates in your own city! We still havent seen Divergent but I’ve read the books and can’t wait!
Can’t wait to hear your opinion on the movie since you’ve read the books! Hope you love it as much as I did 🙂
