Several weeks my friend, Beth, sent me a free trial to Blue Apron. She had been using the service for a while and loved it so decided to share it with me. I had heard a lot about Blue Apron so I was thrilled when she sent me the free trial. A few weeks ago I received my first box and was so excited to started cooking!
How Blue Apron works is that each week their chefs put together six different recipes (3 meat and 3 vegetarian) for you to choose from. The 2-Person Plan gets you 3 meals per week for a total cost of $59.94. The Family Plan (meals for four) gets you either 2 meals per week for a cost of $69.92 or 4 meals per week for a cost of $139.84. Blue Apron always sends their menu options a week in advance so you can decide whether or not you want to skip your delivery that week. Each week you get to choose your meals based on your meat preferences.
When you receive your delivery all food items needed to create the recipes are included and come surrounded by heavy duty ice packs to keep them cool. Step by step recipes with pictures are also included so even if you aren’t great in the kitchen you have all the tools you need for success.
For our first week we chose three meals from the 2-Person Plan. We opted for Corned Beef-Spiced Flank Steaks, Turkey Chili, and Baked Fontina Pasta.
The Corned Beef-Spiced Flank Steaks were served with Braised Cabbage and Buttered Red Potatoes. This meal was absolutely delicious and we especially loved the Braised Cabbage! There was one flank steak per person but the cabbage and potatoes definitely served more than two people. We got several servings out of the vegetables and had plenty of leftovers.
The Turkey Chili was topped with Avocado and Cheddar Cheese. The chili was just ok to me. It was pretty standard and didn’t have a whole lot of spice. We liked it alright but it definitely did not compare to our favorite chili recipe.
The final meal we tried was the Baked Fontina Pasta which came with Brussels Sprouts and Sage Breadcrumbs. We also really enjoyed this dish and I even made my first Bechamel sauce! We did substitute gluten free pasta, flour, and breadcrumbs in place of what was provided.
Overall I really enjoyed my first delivery with Blue Apron! I think it is a great service to use especially for those people who may not normally love to cook as the recipes provide great instructions. While I don’t think I will use this every week, I can definitely see it coming in handy if I don’t have time to grocery shop or am feeling uninspired in the meal planning department.
Everything looks delicious!
We really enjoyed our first week of meals! Can’t wait to order again!
