When you think of brunch in Logan Square two restaurants probably come to mind: Lula Cafe and Longman and Eagle. This past weekend I had plans to dine at Lula, but based on the crowd of at least fifty people standing outside we opted to go elsewhere. Lucky for us, my Chicago neighborhood post from the previous week was all about Logan Square and James gave a great brunch recommendation – Jam.
Jam is open strictly for breakfast and lunch and has deservingly received a Michelin Bib Gourmand for the past three years.
It was really hot on Sunday so we each ordered an iced coffee to start our meals. Jam serves Metropolis coffee which is one of the best Chicago coffee roasters. To go with our coffee we split a Blueberry-Almond Turnover while waiting for our main entrees. The turnover was warm and flaky and had a delicious blueberry filing that wasn’t too sweet.
My sister ordered the brunch special for the day which was a Thyme Waffle with Pork Liver Terrine, Caramelized Onion Gastrique, and Sunnyside Eggs. All of the flavors in this dish were delicious together especially the onions with the pork liver. There were two large pieces of pork on the waffle which was a bit overwhelming so she could only eat one even though she really enjoyed everything.
Kevin ordered the Burrito Suizo which is a Buckwheat Crepe with Braised Beef, Tomato Crema, Jardiniere, Smoked Gouda, and a Sunnyside Egg. Kevin is a big fan of Mexican style breakfast dishes and this one did not disappoint! He really enjoyed all of the flavors in this dish and would definitely order it again.
For my meal I chose the Quiche with Lemon-Cured Lake Trout, Pickled Red Onions, and a Bagel Chip Panzanella. The quiche was extremely light and flavorful with the cured trout. This dish is quintessential New York City and I enjoyed every bite!
I loved everything about Jam from the modern feel of the restaurant to the complex ingredients and flavors of the food. The service was also great. Do yourself a favor and head to Jam for your next brunch. You will not be disappointed!
Jam is located at 3057 W. Logan Blvd. in Chicago’s Logan Square neighborhood
Jam seriously is amazing! It’s definitely a hidden gem tucked away on Logan Blvd. Next time you go you must try the Malted Custard French Toast!
Ohh that sounds so yummy! I love french toast!
