Happy Monday! We had a nice weekend with great weather and enjoyed being outside for most of it. We visited our friends, Brian and Katie, in Cincinnati and had a fun time.
FRIDAY | Kevin and I left early from work and headed to O’Hare for our flight to Cincinnati. We landed around 5 PM and Brian picked us up from the airport. We met up with Katie at their house and then headed downtown for the Reds vs. Brewers game. The Reds stadium is one of the nicest ballparks I’ve been to and I loved being able to catch a game this trip! Brian got us great seats down the third base line and the Reds got the win!
It was Star Wars night and after the game there was a fireworks show to Star Wars music.
After the game we headed to MadTree Brewing Company which was in a cool warehouse space.
SATURDAY | Kevin needed to get in his marathon training run so we all headed to a nearby park in the morning for a run/walk. While they ran, I took Brian and Katie’s dog, Isla, out on the walking/biking paths.
After about an hour, we went back to their house and got ready for the day. We headed out to brunch at Maribelle’s and I had a delicious frittata topped with feta, olive tapenade, pickled red onions, and arugula.
After brunch we went back to their house and sat outside on their deck chatting and enjoying the nice weather. We eventually headed back out for the day and went to Neons for their Kentucky Derby viewing party. They even had a Derby hat contest and this lady’s was my favorite!
Not knowing we would be going here, I did not pack anything “Derby like” to wear which made me sad not to be dressed up, but it was still fun!
They served mint juleps in the official Derby glass and we got to keep them which is a fun souvenir.
When it came time for the actual race, everyone gathered around the big screen cheering on their horses. Sadly, the feed cut out in the middle of the race so we didn’t even get to see the finish, ha! We had to look up the results on our phones. Luckily I recorded the Derby at home and watched it last night once I got home.
We had the dog with us so after the race we walked over to Washington Park and let her run around the dog park for a while. Eventually we made our way over to A Tavola for dinner. I fell in love with their pizza last time we visited and this time tried their meatballs which were also fantastic!
After dinner we walked around some more and then headed back to their house for the night.
SUNDAY | As soon as we all woke up we went to breakfast at The Echo. It was packed for Mother’s Day so we were lucky to get a table. I had a delicious omelet with avocado and bacon, but forgot to take a picture. After breakfast we walked around Hyde Park Square and then it was time for us to head home. The flights home were not looking too good so Kevin and I decided to rent a car to drive back to Chicago. It worked out perfectly because we got to stop in West Lafayette on our way home and visit with my parents and sister for a couple of hours. I was able to surprise my mom for Mother’s Day which was fun too. My dad grilled steak and chicken and we enjoyed a delicious meal followed by some homemade ice cream – the best!
I hope you all had a good weekend! ๐
