If you’ve spent any time in the West Loop walking down “Restaurant Row”, you probably have noticed a spinning goat if you look up on the corner of Randolph and Green.
Little Goat Diner was created by Top Chef: Season Four winner, Stephanie Izard and is part of the Boka Restaurant Group.
Prior to opening Little Goat Diner, Stephanie already made a name for herself in Chicago with her other restaurant Girl & the Goat , which is located across the street. Girl and the Goat has a more “upscale” feel focusing on the shared plates concept. The idea behind Little Goat Diner was to evoke the classic diner era by serving classic items like the patty melt and sloppy joe but giving these traditional dinners a slight twist. Like most diners, you can order breakfast all day long.
Kevin and I have dined at Little Goat for both dinner and brunch. For dinner, we were seated right at the diner counter which was fun to watch the kitchen in action. I ordered the panzanella salad which had lots of fresh veggies, grilled bread, and a roasted tomato vinaigrette.
Kevin opted for the tuna melt which was topped with a nicoise salad and cheese sauce and served on sourdough bread.
We also decided to try one of the sides which intrigued us – the tempura mashed potatoes with Asian BBQ sauce.
We also both ordered dessert to go. Kevin got a chocolate shake while I went for the “pie of the day” which was a goat cheese cheesecake with ritz cracker crust – yum!
We enjoyed our dinner so much, we headed back over for brunch a few weeks later. This time, I ordered something a little less healthy and indulged on the Fat Elvis Waffles. Waffles topped with banana, peanut butter-butter, and bacon maple syrup – oh yes! You must order these waffles!
Kevin ordered the Sloppy Goat – a play on the Sloppy Joe. The sandwich is made with ground goat meat, a rosemary slaw, all on a squish squash roll.
In addition to the main diner, Little Goat also has a coffee bar which serves Stumptown Coffee.
They also make homemade bread and pastries which you can walk in and grab to go with your coffee.
Little Goat has a fun rooftop bar as well which I mentioned in my post about great outdoor patios, that is on my list of places to visit this summer.
Little Goat Diner is a fun place to eat when you are craving some diner classics. Be sure to make a reservation as there are always crowds waiting outside to be seated.
Little Goat Diner is located at 820 W. Randolph St. in Chicago’s West Loop neighborhood
