Happy Monday! How was your holiday weekend? I had a great weekend spent with family and friends!
{thursday}
Our friends, Brian and Katie, arrived from Cincinnati late Wednesday night. Kevin and I both worked on Thursday during the day and my job allowed us to leave early at 3 PM which was great! After work, I met up with our guests for drinks at Three Dots and a Dash which is a tiki bar that serves tropical drinks in downtown Chicago. It’s kind of hidden as the door to enter the bar is in an alley so you definitely need to know where you are going to find it. One of Katie’s friends from Cincinnati who recently moved to Chicago also met up with us. After Kevin got out of class for the night, we ate dinner at Kinmont. Kinmont is a new seafood restaurant in Chicago that has been on our list to try for a couple of months. We all thoroughly enjoyed our meals and will be back soon for sure.

{friday}
Friday morning while everyone else was still sleeping, I snuck out and picked up some red, white, and blue donuts for breakfast.
We spent the rest of the morning just lounging around and chatting. I also put together a couple of dishes to take to a BBQ later that afternoon. I made a berry trifle recipe from my mom and it was a huge hit with everyone!
We headed out to Naperville to our friends, Matt and Ashton’s, house that afternoon. We ate burgers, brats, and lots of yummy sides. We spent the entire afternoon outside enjoying the sunshine and then headed to a park across the street for fireworks at night. It was a perfect 4th of July!

{saturday}
Our guests left Saturday morning to spend the rest of the weekend with family so Kevin and I headed downtown to spend the day outside. We started off with lunch at Butcher and the Burger in Lincoln Park.
After lunch we decided to bike off our burgers and fries by renting some Divvy bikes and riding along the lake path.
We picked up our bikes at Monroe Harbor and headed south through the museum campus to 31st street beach and back.
After we dropped off our bikes, we went to Pritzker Pavilion in Millennium Park for one of their free concerts. Saturday night was the Portland Youth Philharmonic and they were amazing!!
One of my favorite summer activities in Chicago is going to Millennium Park for their free concerts. Every Wednesday night and on random weekend nights the Grant Street Music Festival hosts concerts in the park. There are seats as well as a huge lawn area where you can set up a picnic while listening to the music.
It started raining mid-concert so we only stayed for half of the show because we didn’t have umbrellas or rain coats with us. We definitely plan on going back to several more shows throughout the summer!
On our way home we stopped in Marion Street Cheese Market and picked up some bread and cheese and then headed home to watch Non Stop on Netflix.
{sunday}
We found out late Saturday night that a realtor was going to be bringing some clients through our place on Sunday afternoon so we spent the morning cleaning and getting everything ready for show. Unfortunately, we had to miss church because of this. Had we known sooner on Saturday we could have planned better. Since we had to be out of the house, we headed over to one of our favorite restaurants, Maya del Sol, for brunch. We have eaten here many times for dinner, but this was our first time going for brunch. They have one of my favorite outdoor patios!
I ordered a breakfast skillet which was good, but Kevin’s chilaquiles were awesome!! I will definitely be ordering that next time.
After brunch we set up shop in Caribou Coffee to read/study until we were in the clear to go back home. We spent the rest of the afternoon just relaxing at home – the perfect end to a busy but fun weekend!
