Good morning! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday weekend! It was so nice having three days off from work and even though my weekend was pretty packed full of activities, it still seemed like a long weekend which was nice. As I mentioned last week, the Fourth of July has become one of my favorite holidays and this year was no exception. Here is a little look into my weekend:
FRIDAY | Kevin and I both had the day off of work which I feel like is rare for us to both be off on the same day. We got up early and rode our bikes to Blue Max Coffee for a little coffee/breakfast date. I ordered a bacon and caramelized onion quiche was the best quiche I have ever eaten!
They roast and brew their own coffee at Blue Max which had a nice nutty flavor to it that I really enjoyed!
After breakfast we continued on our bike ride around the neighborhood for a while before heading back home to get ready for the day. We spent the afternoon running errands including a stop at Oak Brook Mall for a little shopping. We also went to the driving range to hit a few golf balls.
After the range we headed to Teddy’s Red Hots and shared a black cherry Italian ice to cool off with. Teddy’s was one of Kevin’s favorite spots when he was growing up and is the first place he brought me to try a Chicago style hot dog when we first started dating.
Later that evening after more errand stops, we had dinner at Wild Ginger in downtown Hinsdale. I ordered the chicken pad thai which was pretty good.
We picked up Still Alice from Redbox and ended our night at home watching a movie. I really enjoyed this movie a lot and I thought it did a great job accurately showing the life of a person with Alzheimer’s disease. The movie kind of ended abruptly, but other than that it was great!
SATURDAY | I went to the Farmers Market first thing in the morning and picked up some fresh vegetables which I used to make a big bowl of salsa that I brought to a cookout later that day.
We headed out to Naperville to our friends Matt and Ashton’s house for their annual 4th of July get together. Matt grilled burgers and brats and there were lots of other yummy sides as well! We spent all afternoon sitting outside enjoying the weather and chatting with friends which was really fun!
We went back to Oak Park that night for fireworks. The fireworks are shot from the high school’s football field so you can sit in the stadium bleachers and get a really good view. Unfortunately, they closed off the stadium right as we were walking up so we had to watch from the sidewalk. It was still a good show though and a perfect way to end the night!
SUNDAY | We went to church in the morning and then had brunch at my favorite Chicago restaurant – Davanti Enoteca. I ordered the prosciutto and egg breakfast sandwich was so good! It was really filling though so I could only eat half.
After brunch we came home so Kevin could work on homework for a while. Later that afternoon we decided to play golf again since it was such a nice day. This time we played 9 holes instead of just going to the range. We called Kevin’s dad and had him join us which was super fun. This was only my third time actually playing on a real course and I did terrible, but it was still really fun! Let’s be honest, I just like driving/riding around in the golf cart. 🙂
That’s our 4th of July weekend in a nutshell! I hope yours was great as well! 🙂
