Good morning afternoon! Sorry for the delay in this post, but better late than never right? I had a very busy weekend and special guests in town so didn’t have much free time to sit down and write.
{friday}
Two of our friends from college, Mary and Taylor, are currently living overseas on a temporary work assignment, but were back in the US visiting with family and friends these past couple of weeks. After work we headed down to Mary’s parents’ house in northern Indiana for a cookout and to visit with them while they were here. We ate burgers and lots of yummy sides and hung out in their backyard enjoying the summer weather while catching up with each other. Mary and Taylor are expecting a baby girl at the end of September so we spent most of the night trying to guess the baby’s name, but their lips were sealed! We’re excited for them to become parents! You can check out Mary’s blog here where she writes about her adventures living in Singapore and their travels to different countries.
{saturday}
Saturday morning we slept in after being out late the night before. I made a trip to the Farmer’s Market and picked up some delicious Michigan sweet cherries and some gorgeous sunflowers! Sadly peony season is over, but I’m still loving the sunflowers!
I met up with my friends Beth, Ashley, and Beth’s sister Laura for afternoon tea at The Langham hotel downtown Chicago. Beth is also expecting a baby girl at the beginning of August and I had to miss her shower a couple of weekends ago so I organized this little get together so I could give her a gift. What is more girly than an afternoon of getting dressed up to sip on tea and eat dainty finger foods? We had so much fun at The Langham! I will be writing a full review on our experience soon.
{sunday}
Sunday morning Kevin and I went to church and then ate lunch at Doc B’s new location in River North. My friend Kelly recommended this restaurant to me after dining at their Gold Coast location. Doc B’s is very casual but has really good food! Upon arrival we were slightly confused by the concept of the restaurant because you have to order and pay at a counter but then you have a server the rest of your meal. It was kind of weird and we weren’t expecting to have to order as soon as we walked in the door. Despite that, the food was really tasty and I would go back! I ordered the California Salad which had kale, avocado, pistachio, dried cranberries, wasabi peas, and roasted sweet potatoes tossed in a roasted garlic dressing. This salad was amazing! I would definitely order this again.
After lunch we headed home and I did some cleaning and baked some homemade chocolate chip cookies.
Late afternoon our guests arrived! My brother Kyle and his new wife Faith were in Indiana for a wedding on Saturday so decided to drive up and visit with us for a couple of days! This was Faith’s first time visiting Chicago and we were so excited to have them as our guests! Sunday night we ventured out to Millennium Park and Grant Park and saw “the bean” and Buckingham Fountain. We walked around downtown until we got hungry and then ate dinner at Bub City. Bub City is one of our favorite casual restaurants in Chicago for good food and a fun atmosphere. Oh and they have the BEST mac and cheese!
{monday}
I took the day off work on Monday to hang out with Kyle and Faith. We started our day by going on an architectural boat tour. We did the combined river and lake tour which I love! It’s a great way to see a lot of the city in a short amount of time while learning some history as well.
We spent the rest of the day exploring the city. We went to Navy Pier, shopped on Michigan Ave, went to Gino’s East for some deep dish pizza, saw Wrigley Field, and eventually ended up at the Houndstooth Saloon for our Alabama alums. My sister Hilary and Kevin were able to meet up with us after work as well and we finished the night at Jeni’s Ice Cream before heading home.
It was so much fun having them visit and I loved having them here! I wish we all lived closer.
Hope you all had a great weekend! Looking forward to having more guests in town this coming weekend as well!
xoxo Paige
