Today I am linking up with Katelyn and Emily for their Blogger Bookworm link up. This month we read the book The One and Only by Emily Giffin.
1. What was your overall opinion of the book? Did you love it, hate it, kind of enjoy it?
I was a little slow getting into the book at first, but ended up absolutely loving it! Once the story picked up, I could not put the book down. It is the perfect light, quick, summer read.
2. Who was your favorite character in the book, and why did you identify with them?
I hate to say the main character is my favorite, but I really did like Shea. I like that she never questioned who she was as a person and stayed true to herself. I also liked that she did the right thing in the end by putting her friendship with Lucy first and in the end everything worked out for her. I also really loved Lucy. I love how refined and girly she is. She seemed to be the perfect southern belle!
3. What is your favorite college and/or pro football team?
Even though we only won one football game last year, I’m still loyal to my alma mater and am a Purdue Boilermaker fan! My younger brother and his wife went to school at the University of Alabama so I’ll give a “Roll Tide” for them. Living in Chicago, I also cheer for the Bears!
4. Did you grow up in a place where football was practically a second religion? Was football a big part of your high school and/or college experience?
I grew up in West Lafayette, IN which is where Purdue University is located. Football is definitely not a second religion in Indiana like it is in the south. We are more of a basketball state, but football Saturdays are still a big thing with tailgating and cheering on the Boilers. I’d say football was a big part of my high school and college experience. I went to every home and some away football games in both high school and college.
5. What was your favorite scene in the book?
One of my favorite scenes in the book was when Shea and Coach Carr were discussing all of his game day rituals and she remembered giving him the pack of Big Red gum as a little girl. I love the way she admired him even as a child and the relationship they had with each other. I also loved when they played Trivial Pursuit together and had their own inside jokes. Of course, the final scene was also one of my favorites!
6. What was your least favorite scene in the book?
My lease favorite scene was after the Cowboys game on Thanksgiving when Ryan’s dad was so mean to him. I hated reading about how he treated his son. I also did not like the scene at the Third Rail when Ryan got jealous of Shea and Miller.
7. Have you read any of Emily Giffin’s books before? If so, how do you think this book compared?
I have actually read all of Emily Giffin’s books. The One and Only might be one of my favorites! Of course I am partial to Something Borrowed and Something Blue. I also loved Heart of the Matter. I love the way she develops the characters in all of her books.
8. Now that you’ve finished this book, what is next on your summer reading list?
Next up on my reading list is Firefly Lane by Kristin Hannah at the recommendation of my friend, Jacki.

Paige! Thanks so much for linking up with us! I loved reading your answers. I think that Thanksgiving Day Cowboys game was everyone’s consensus for the least favorite part – so awful! You will love Firefly Lane – I read it and really enjoyed it!
