The donut craze has been huge in Chicago over the past year with new speciality stores opening in almost every neighborhood. You can get flavors like maple bacon, banana nutella pretzel, lemon pistachio, and the list goes on. For Christmas a couple of years ago, I got a donut pan and have loved having the option of making donuts in my own kitchen. I have already shared with you my Apple Cider Donut recipe and today I am sharing with you Kevin’s favorite – Chocolate Glazed!
Baked Donuts with Chocolate Glaze
recipe adapted from Joy the Baker
Ingredients
For the Donuts:
- 1 cup flour (can use gluten free)
- 3/4 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 3 tablespoon unsalted butter, melted
- 1 egg
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
For the Chocolate Glaze:
- 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
- 4 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
- pinch of salt
- 3 to 4 tablespoons milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Directions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Lightly grease your donut pan and set aside.’
- In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and sugar. Set aside.
- In a small bowl, whisk together melted butter, egg, milk, and vanilla extract.
- Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients. Stir together until all of the ingredients are well combined. Try not to over mix the batter.
- Use a small spoon to dollop batter into the prepared pan. Smooth out and fill each donut in the pan three-quarters full with batter.
- Bake for 8 to 10 minutes. Remove from the oven and allow to cool in the pan before inverting onto a wire rack to cool completely.
- To make the glaze, in a medium bowl whisk together powdered sugar, cocoa powder, and salt.
- Add 2 tablespoons of milk and vanilla extract. Whisk to combine. Add more milk as necessary to create a thick but still pourable glaze.
- Once the donuts are completely cool, dip top-side-down into the chocolate glaze. Return to the wire rack and sprinkle with toppings.
