You guys! I just had the best weekend! The best and most fun I’ve had in a long time. The weather was amazing and I got to spend quality time with the people I love most. My heart is full!
FRIDAY | Kevin was so sweet and planned a little getaway for us this weekend. We drove up to Lake Geneva, Wisconsin Friday afternoon and stayed at the Grand Geneva for the night. After we got settled into our room we headed to the downtown area for dinner at Sopra Bistro. I ordered the lamb and it was so so good! I loved the roasted artichokes on the side.
After dinner we went back to our hotel and relaxed outside on the patio around the fire with drinks.
SATURDAY | Before checking out, we walked around the grounds of the resort. They have a beautiful golf course with walking paths around it.
And the cutest fall pumpkin display out front!
We then headed back to downtown Lake Geneva for brunch at our favorite place – Egg Harbor Cafe.
This weekend happened to be Lake Geneva’s Oktoberfest celebration so we walked around the downtown area and explored for a while. They had a polka band and everything!
Of course we couldn’t resist splitting a fresh apple cider donut!
We also walked down to the lake itself which is so beautiful! Some of the leaves on the trees were just starting to change colors.
Later that afternoon we drove to Apple Barn Orchard and Winery for some apple picking! This orchard is about 15 minutes outside of Lake Geneva and was such a great place.
They had six different varieties of apples available for picking that day and tons of trees to pick from. There was also a pumpkin patch in the middle and free wagon rides!
We picked about 30 apples for $15 which I thought was a pretty good deal.
Kevin was pretty proud of himself for always finding “the best” apples. π
After apple picking we hit the road back to Illinois but not before stopping at the store to get some New Glarus beer which can only be purchased in the state of Wisconsin. We also made a quick run through the outlet mall to check out some of the Columbus Day sales.
Later that evening my sister arrived in town for the Chicago Marathon. We ordered pasta from one of our favorite Italian spots, La Bella, and carb loaded right along side of her. π
SUNDAY | We were all up bright and early for Marathon Sunday. Hilary was running the race and Kevin and I were there to be her cheerleaders.
We had so much fun following her along the course and hopping from one location to the next. It was such a beautiful day to be in Chicago and Hilary did such an awesome job! We are so so proud of her for finishing!
After the race we went back to our condo and Kevin picked up Portillo’s chopped salads for us while we watched the Bears game we recorded. Hilary was a trooper and made the two hour drive back home that night despite being exhausted and sore from running.
I’m so sad this weekend is already over but I’m looking forward to next weekend when we get to visit my brother and sister-in-law!
