It’s been a while since I’ve done a restaurant review and today’s is one you don’t want to miss!
Vistro opened in August 2014 and is run by chef/owner Paul Virant who is already well known for his other two restaurants Vie and Perennial Virant. Vistro focuses on seasonal food and drinks and showcases local products from the Midwest.
We started our meal with what might be one of the best appetizers I’ve ever eaten. The Crispy Tuscan Kale with Honey, Lemon, and Brown Butter was so simple yet had such bold flavors with the brown butter and honey. I could’ve easily eaten the entire pan myself.
The restaurant has a wood-burning oven that is a focal point of the dining room so our waitress recommended splitting a wood-fired pizza as an appetizer. Kevin and his parents shared the Margherita Pizza and all loved the thin and chewy crust.
For my entree I chose the White Fish Piccata which was topped with Lemon, White Wine, and Capers and served on top of a Yukon Gold Potato Puree, Sautéed Spinach, and Roasted Tomatoes. I loved all of the flavors in this dish from the salty capers to the sweet roasted tomatoes. The fish had a nice crust from the pan sear and was light and flaky.
Kevin and his parents all ended up ordering the same thing for dinner. They all chose the Griddled Dry Aged Burger topped with Bacon, Roasted Onions, Pimento Cheese, and Pickles. All three really enjoyed their burgers and I even go to try a bite. I loved the smoky pimento cheese combined with the pickles on the burger. The fries were also outstanding!
For dessert we shared a bowl of House Soft Serve Vanilla Ice Cream with Chocolate Sauce which was the perfect way to end an already fantastic meal!
I highly recommend Vistro for your next date night or dinner out. We enjoyed everything about our meal from the food, the service, and the decor of the restaurant.
Vistro is located at 112 S. Washington St. in Hinsdale, IL
