Every year I wonder why the Super Bowl is on Sunday night and not Saturday! Doesn’t the NFL know people go to work the next day?? I guess this officially makes me old when I can barely hang until 10 PM on a work night. This weekend was such a good one I can’t wait to tell you about it!
FRIDAY | I took a half day at work and met my sister for lunch at Doc B’s where I had my favorite California Salad.
The main reason for my half day was to attend the IF: Gathering at my church. The IF: Gathering is an annual conference for women that is held in Austin, TX and was created to gather, equip, and unleash women to live out the purpose. Our church live streamed the entire conference and it was two full days of pure awesome!
Not only did we hear a lineup of amazing speakers including Jennie Allen, Jen Hatmaker, Bianca Olthoff, and Eugene Cho, but we also had live worship and were able to talk and learn with other women around our tables.
SATURDAY | Like I mentioned IF was a two day conference so I spent all day at church again for day two. In addition to the speakers, the conference also spent a lot of time discussing social injustices in this world and different organizations that are working to reconcile these issues. We learned about the International Justice Mission whose goal is to end human trafficking and Noonday Collection who support women in the jewelry making business in impoverished countries. Another cool thing we did on Saturday is we had the opportunity to go out to lunch and meet other women at the conference who weren’t necessarily sitting out our table. My group went to Tavern on Rush and I had a delicious spinach salad with baked goat cheese.
The conference wrapped up around 5 PM on Saturday and ended with two of my favorite speakers of the weekend: Angie Smith and David Platt. I am still processing through everything I heard this weekend but I’ll tell you that David Platt’s message changed my entire way of thinking about the gospel and the world. If you have a chance, I would highly recommend listening to his talk. You can listen to it online for free and it’s only about 20 minutes long. It’s in session 4 at about the 1:54 mark. You won’t be disappointed!
I called my brother on the way home and basically discussed Platt’s entire talk with him and then recapped it to Kevin again once I got home lol. After telling Kevin all about my amazing weekend, we rented Burnt from Redbox and then called it an early night. I was exhausted!
SUNDAY | Kevin and I went to church in the morning and then headed out to Oak Brook for a surprise birthday brunch for our friend Mandy. Her parents planned this brunch last year for her 30th birthday but a huge snow storm hit so we rescheduled to celebrate her 31st this year. We had brunch at The Clubhouse which hosted a huge brunch buffet with just about everything you could imagine. I filled up my plate with a little bit of everything. π Our friends Bill and Katie even drove up from Indiana and it was so fun to see them!
After brunch we did a little shopping since we were already at the mall and then ran a couple of errands. We ended the night watching the Super Bowl at home. We had ribs and I made a couple of appetizers including Sweet Potato Bites and Restaurant Style Salsa.
Kevin was cheering for the Panthers so we had Carolina style barbecue sauce with our ribs.
I was cheering for the Broncos (aka Peyton Manning) and had way too much fun with Snapchat due to the lack of entertaining commercials this year.
Hope you all had a fun weekend! π
